Favourite Pictures – The seashore

This is one of those pictures which I like because of the simplicity of it. It was one of the first pictures I took when we arrived at Dunwich National Trust nature reserve on the Suffolk coast and it was one I had been planning to take since we decided we would go there. It’s a classic simple view of the water meeting the land and vanishing into the distance, but it’s improved by the fact that we had good weather and so the sky is a lovely blue. I took this with the camera down low and so I couldn’t see the level indicator clearly, or infact most of the scene until after I took it, but although I did try a version with the horizon straightened in Lightroom, I actually prefer the angled sea.

Because the aperture was quite wide at about f/5.6 (I had a dust mark on the sensor and I was trying to avoid it showing) the near foreground is blurred, but in this instance I quite like that.

  • Sony Nex 6
  • Soligor C/D 28mm f/2.8
  • 1/4000 sec
  • iso 100
  • f/5.6
