Favourite pictures – Lighting candles

This is a series of pictures I took in York Minster recently when my Daughter wanted to light a candle. They were taken with a 55mm Takumar f/1.8 lens fitted to a Camdiox focal reducer, making an effective aperture of about f/1.4 and used only the available light. I liked these pictures when I first saw them on the review screen of my Nex just after I took them, but I didn’t notice the small flaw with them until I looked at them properly in PP this evening.

The flaw is caused by the camdiox focal reducer which was fitted to reduce the crop factor of the APS-C sensor of the Nex. On some of the images there are reflections of the candles which can be seen as greenish blobs. One set appeared on my Daughters face, so I removed those in Photoshop, but I’ve left the others as they are not too distracting and they show the problem that using focal reducers (at least inexpensive ones) can cause.

These were all taken at f/1.8 and at fairly high iso.
