Fuji X-T1 macro sample pictures

Today I’ve been out with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens to see the Fuji X-T1 macro capability using this Pentax K mount lens.

Because the lens was mounted on a Fuji X mount to Pentax K mount adapter I had to use manual focus and I used either aperture priority exposure mode, or manual mode with auto ISO. The metering was set to matrix or pattern metering in all cases.

I found the easiest focus assist mode to use was focus peaking and was quite successful using the high speed drive mode to fire multiple shots and ‘sweep’ the camera focus point across the subject to make sure I got some pictures in focus. As anyone who has taken macro shots will know, the hardest part is to get the focus spot on because of the very narrow depth of field, but I found this technique meant I got at least one shot in my burst which has exactly the picture I wanted.

I think the most impressive thing about these pictures is the very low noise displayed. In order to increase the depth of field I used f/8 for most of these shots and kept the shutter speed to either 1/250 or 1/500 in most cases. This drove the ISO up to as much as 6400 in some cases and the images really stand up well with very little noise showing.

These pictures were imported into Lightroom for post processing, but all I really needed to do was to drop some highlights and apply a very small amount of noise reduction and sharpening.
