Garden Insects

Over the last few weeks it’s become a bit of a habit to go into the garden at some point in the day with my camera to see if I can get any pictures of the insects and spiders which crawl and fly around the plants.

Although neither my wife Janice or I are naturally gifted gardeners, we have been steadily improving the condition of the garden and introducing more plants and flowers  in order to encourage more insects and birds into the garden and this year we have been much more successful than we have for the last few years. Every day we have countless butterflies and bees buzzing around, so it’s been really interesting as a photographer to get out and see what macro subjects I can find. It’s also been useful over the last few days that the light levels have been really good, so I’ve been able to use an aperture of about f/8 or f/11 to maximize the depth of field whilst still keeping a shutter speed fast enough to avoid blur.

The images below are all taken in the garden with my Pentax K5 fitted with a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens and are the pick of the pictures I’ve taken over the last week. The post processing was done in Lightroom CC and a couple of the shots were cropped to increase the effective magnification.
