Site Changes coming up to simon.hawketts.co.uk

I’m finding it difficult to get the time to post articles to this site at the moment because of other work and personal commitments.

As well as a major landscaping project in the garden, we are having a new boiler fitted in a couple of days and then we are re-designing and refitting our 20 year old kitchen.

On top of this, I’m also planning how I’m going to move my woodworking / DIY workshop from its current location in our garage into a 8ft x 10ft shed in the garden. Although that won’t happen until the spring, I’m starting to do some of the work to replace the bench, tool board, storage cupboards etc with mobile units which can slot into the new shed when the time comes.

Because I’m finding it difficult to devote time to writing new articles, I’m spending what little time I have on the site tidying up the categorisation of the existing posts and checking the SEO of the articles etc. This will remove a lot of tags which only apply to one post and hopefully make the site navigation and menus more logical.

I’m also thinking about combining this photography blog with the found-film site, and another site I occasionally post to about wordpress development.

When I started found-film, my photoblog (this site) was hosted on wordpress.com and that made it impossible to add the code I developed for found-film. Since all my sites are now self-hosted, it makes more sense to combine everything into different topics of the same site. I would only then have to maintain one code repository, and pay for one jetpack subscription rather than several. I’ll have to look at how much would be involved in changing the theme colour scheme based on the selected topic, which would maintain the ‘feel’ of separate sites.
